Recall issued on baby food sold at Walmart, online for high arsenic levels

Editor’s Note: This recall occurred in October 2021. As of January 2022, there has been no recall on Parent’s Choice Rive Baby Cereal.

(WTAJ) – Several lots of Parent’s Choice Rice Baby Cereal sold across the country at Walmart and online have been voluntarily recalled after “above guideline” testing for naturally occurring inorganic arsenic

Maple Island Inc., which manufactures the product for Walmart, has issued the recall to the knowledge of the FDA. Walmart also removed the product from its shelves and placed a “record block” on it to stop any further sale.

The recalled Parent’s Choice 8 oz Rice Baby Cereal lots sold after April 5, 2021 and include:

  • Lot 21083 with UPC code # 00681131082907 with an expiration date of June 24, 2022.
  • Lot 21084 with UPC code # 00681131082907 with an expiration date of JUNE 25, 2022
  • Lot 21242 with UPC code # 00681131082907 with an expiration date of NOV 30, 2022

The best if used by the date and product numbers can be found in the lower left corner of the back of the parent’s choice rice baby cereal package.

No illness has been reported as of this date, October 11. The company has stated that no other Parent’s Choice production lot or product is affected by this recall.

Customers who may have purchased Parent’s Choice Rice Baby Cereal from Walmart should discard the product or return it to Walmart for a full refund.
